How to format SD card after you've used it with raspberry pi

Post a reply 2 posts by Raspberry123 » Wed Oct 09, 2013 6:36 pm

My SD card at the moment has openelec installed on it, but i want to try a different flavor of Linux. How can i properly format the card? Thanks

If you intend to write a new "*.img" file to the card there should be no need to re-format it, since the "*.img" writing tool(s) write a "raw disk image" which replaces any existing formats & partitions. However, occasionally, that may not work (ie. the SD card may have been "corrupted") so then, as for NOOBS, use the SDA's formatting tool

Alternatively, cards can sometimes be re-formatted in some digital cameras. If you have access to another Linux box a partitioning tool like GParted could be used instead. Trev.

Mainly running "Wheezy Raspbian" on five Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2 & a B+). Notes about them begin at
