Ma Zu is a sea goddess who looks after the maritime affairs, as the citizens of Taiwan believe as a most important folk religion. A week before Ma Zu birthday every year, the pilgrimage will be held on the 19th/20th days of the third lunar month (usually in mid April ~early May), in a small town named Bei-Gang located near the middle of the west coast Taiwan. It is usual to see many acting roles dancing on firecrackers though they are not professional dancers.
