It's time for ARM in the Enterprise 什麼是ARM？ 什麼是ARM？ ARM為一家嵌入式處理器IP供應商，該公司前身為Acorn Computer，曾開發RISC處理器，但一直未能取得商業上的成功。1990年ARM正式成立，開始採用授權的商業模式，一直到1993年，TI、Cirrus Logic等知名業者採用該公司技術後，ARM終於逐漸在市場中建立知名度。受惠於手機的應用，該公司ARM9核心已擁有超過200家的授權業者、ARM7也有150多家的公司採用。此外，光是2006年，內含ARM核心的晶片出貨量就有25億顆，而累積至2007年底，ARM核心晶片出貨量已突破100億顆。

Computex 2010：ARM 和各家廠商合資成立 Linaro，縮短手機的開發時程和減少成本 SoC（System on Chip）晶片商有很多家，智慧型手機用的作業系統也有很多。對開發晶片的晶片商來說，為這些作業系統寫各自的程式，就成了耗時耗錢的一件事。為了減少支 出，SoC 界和 Linux 界的大手們 -- ARM、IBM、Freescale、ST-Ericsson、TI 、Linux Foundation -- 決定合資成立一間非營利的公司「Linaro」，其主要的目的是有一批獨立在所有廠商之外的工程師，專門寫一套可以協助 Linux-based 的作業系統（Android、Meego、Ubuntu、WebOS etc）和 SoC 晶片的各項功能間的軟體介面。對 SoC 商來說，這也意味著許多 SoC 晶片上的功能勢必要以 Linaro 的產品為中心標準化，但另一方面這可以省下許多目前是重複的開發成本。

初步 Linaro 会有约 25 名工程师，未来将逐步扩大到百人左右，年预算则在数千万到一亿美元之间。预计的开发时程是每六个月推出一个新的版本，第一版将在 11 月为 ARM Cortex-AX 家族推出。这个公司的成立对消费者来说其实没有什么关连，但新的、更快的 CPU 或许可以因此而更快进入装置中，对消费者来说也是福音啊！

I think it is obviously meaningless for Microsoft to insist on making Windows 8 a separate closed/proprietary/incompatible ecosystem to Android. And it’d be even more wrong if Microsoft wants to forbid tablet and laptop makers to dual-boot Android with Windows RT.
